MCC + JOC and Goodbye.

So, you have just passed your IR, you have worked so hard to get there and then its time to go and sit in a 737 simulators and learn how to switch on the autopilot.... yer?....wrong!

We do two course in one, Multi Crew Cooperation and Jet Orientation Course (MCC/JOC), the MCC stage is necessary for your ATPL licence and the JOC stage is just a nice Oxford Brucie bonus. We have 4 days of ground school and then 2 weeks of sim training, its hard work but the instructors are great, mostly ex 747 pilots it would seem. The days are long which start at various times and you need a good report which the airlines read. Oxford have two 737-400 simulators which are good. You don't need full motion for the licence but they are at Oxford and do the job well.

I haven't got to much to say about the MCC/JOC except that it was really enjoyable and felt like all the parts of the course had come together. We train like we work for 'Oxford Aviation Airways' flying out of London and Glasgow etc, however, Oxford Aviation Airways is the least reliable airline ever, there is always a problem we have to deal with... usually we loose and engine or something. We carry out all the drills and also have to practice PA's which are a skill in itself! We worked hard during the course and I was pleased to see our marks and report reflected that. A good thing about the course is that unlike during the flying stage you are allowed a family member to sit in the jump seat. My father came down and it was a great experience to show what we have learnt over the past 16 month.

I finished Oxford on 11th of this month and helped out in the open day the next day by showing people the 737 sims and giving them ago. Things have gone full circle for me; from me having a go in the sim 2 years ago and being hugely impressed and in awe of these pilots to being lucky enough to show people my experience at Oxford.

I left Oxford on the Saturday afternoon, handing in my air-side pass and getting my paper worked signed, of course, a big thank you to Oxford and their staff for an incredible time, a great working environment and their dedication. Investment spent, into the world of airline employment.
